Cover Tunes
Action is pretty light again this week in the ‘Nacle so I thought some light fare might be in order here as well.
I mentioned a cover band I used to play with in a previous post. But my (primary) former originals band, Noisepie, also did lots of covers. Of course we would “Pie” the songs up and make them our own. This post is mostly an excuse to show off some of these songs. I wish we had recorded more of our cover songs because some were pretty classic (you’ll have to ask if you’d like me to ramble on about that), but at least I have these for posterity’s sake. (I might have put this post up at Kulturblog if it weren’t so shamelessly self-aggrandizing…). Anyway, here they are with links to the MP3s:
Mandy – Noisepie was a pretty hard-rockin’ band but we were sort of goofy too, so a hard funk version of a Manilo classic just made sense. This was probably our most popular cover.
Stuck In The Middle – This one showed off our art rock leanings. It is a cover of the classic 70s song that was revived in the movie Reservoir Dogs.
Summertime – This is our live recording of Gershwin’s classic. Being live it has some rough edges, but overall it came out ok.
Sweet Caroline – This Neil Diamond song was really cool live but I think the recording suffers a bit from me trying to overproduce it. I just loved throwing in crazy group singing into my song arrangements and this one shows that. You might notice Kristen’s lovely voice in the backup vocals too!
Anyway, check the tunes out if you would like and vote on the one you hate most. That’s me on vocals and sax (except on Stuck in the Middle where T.C., my older brother and our drummer, sings lead. I sing backup and play flute on that one.)
Enjoy! (Or not…)
Geoff, you’re cool, man.
